Our Maui Vacation 2013
After an amazing and busy 2012 photography season we were looking forward to our vacation – and headed back to Maui for our fifth anniversary. We were married at Secret Cove Beach in 2008 so it was great to be back, and was a very relaxing trip. We really enjoyed all the amazing food – from the banana macadamia nut french toast & pancakes at the Kihei Cafe, to our favorite restaurant Sansei Seafood and Sushi with their amazing mango crab salad hand roll, rainbow roll, panko crusted ahi roll, and fresh ahi tuna with shrimp cake. We also spent lots of time at the beach – especially Palauea, Napili, Mokapu, and of course Secret Cove.
Here are some of our favorites photos from the trip:
One of our new favorite Maui Beaches – with great sand, clear water, and beautiful sunsets…

Honolua Bay is one of our absolute favorite places on the island of Maui. Such a great view from the lookout above the bay, then you walk through this amazing rainforest, and then down to the clear water for some of the best snorkelling. Always one of the first places we visit…

Palauea Beach is one of Maui’s Turtle Towns and its not hard to see why. Dan went out snorkelling for half an hour or so and saw three or four turtles. This one come swimming right over and was pretty exciting to see up close…

Plumeria’s are one of Shauna’s favorite flowers! We saw this tree while driving and of course turned around to get a closer look at the beautiful colors…

Too far south for the northern lights to show up, but that just means the Milky Way is that much more visible… and what a sight it was…

On Left: A sunset silhouette photo we took of ourselves at Mokapu Beach on our anniversary…
On Right: A wave crashing at Keanae, one of our favorite places to stop along the Hana Highway…

Another of our favorite sunset photos taken at Mokapu Beach…

The Kihei Cafe was our favorite place for breakfast… Dan’s favorite was the pineapple coconut french toast, and Shauna’s favorite was the banana macadamia nut french toast…

We could see some whales from the beach, so booked a whale watching trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation to get a closer view. We saw lots of whales again this time, although we didn’t get quite as close as last time. The trip was worth it just for the view of the islands from the water…

We visited our wedding beach at Secret Cove a few times. Our first visit was a Saturday evening, so it was quite busy. Went back again after an early morning of night photos and found the beach completely empty. So beautiful and so relaxing…

We had a lot of fun trying out some self portraits throughout the trip, and this one at Ulua Beach was definitely one of our favorites…

Melanie & Blake Maternity
Melanie & Blake made the announcement during their wedding reception last fall that baby number two was on the way, and now the new addition to the family is almost here! Melanie is about 36 weeks along, so we met them at their home on April 1st for a Maternity Photography Session. Melanie sister-in-law, Katie, is also pregnant, and came to get some photos of the family ‘baby-bumps’ together. Congratulations to the happy families!

Winter Family Photos – Prince George BC
Angela and Grayden wanted some winter family photos with the kids, but Angela said she would rather chew off an arm than do a traditional studio session. They wanted something that captured their family playing, having fun, and just being themselves. We met them at a co-worker’s farm on Nukko Lake on a sunny winter day. They brought their snowshoes and the family dog and had a great time playing in the snow.

Winter Family Photos
This family photo session took place on a beautiful winter day at Cottonwood Island Park in Prince George BC. We took some photos at the bridge, and then grandma and grandpa headed down the trail for a walk, before they headed out to breakfast for their grandma’s 75th birthday. Such a great day to be out and about!

Marissa & Peter – Engagement Session
Marissa recently got a new job and needed some new headshots. She also happens to be engaged to Peter and wanted to combine the sessions. So we met them at UNBC and headed over to Forests For The World to enjoy the trails and the snow on a bright sunny winter day.

Winter Ballet Engagement – Prince George BC
This is part two of Jaclyn & Ethan’s Winter Engagement Session in Prince George BC. As mentioned in the Previous Post, Jaclyn is a dancer and wanted to incorporate her pointe shoes into the session. We decided to head back to town and out of the forest for this part of the shoot. The fresh coat of snow that morning helped quite a bit with getting the look we wanted. They had been practicing their lifts the night before, which we put to great use. She also brought the white tulle for her tutu, and Ethan brought along a pretty awesome hat! It was a lot of fun despite the cooler temperatures, and we can’t wait for their wedding this summer – they have lots of creative and personalized ideas they are going to incorporate.

Jaclyn & Ethan Engagement – Part One
We first met Jacyln at the Storybook Wedding Bridal Expo back in January, and then met with her and Ethan a few days later to discuss their wedding plans and engagement session. We started out in the forest – the fresh snow in the trees was perfect for the shoot. And we even got a bit of sunlight shining through the trees! We were excited to find out that Jacyln is a dancer as well, and that she wanted to incorporate her shoes into the engagement session… more to come on that with Part 2 of their session tomorrow! They are such a happy and fun couple – we can’t wait to photograph their wedding this summer with all of their fun and creative ideas.

Northern Pixel Photography – Our Favorites of 2012
We’d like to thank all of our customers, clients, friends, and family for helping to make 2012 our best year yet!
Things got off to an great start with the Storybook Bridal Expo in January, and then our summer & fall were crazy busy with engagements, family sessions, and weddings. We had great weather the whole way through and a variety of locations, including our first travel wedding outside of Prince George… a beautiful farm wedding by the Bulkley river in Smithers, BC.
We really liked that all of our wedding couples were so unique, from a 1920′s themed wedding, a beautiful backyard DIY wedding with handmade details and all locally-produced organic food, to Melanie & Blake’s fall wedding and many more.
Here are some of our favourite photos from throughout the year:
We are really looking forward to seeing what the next year will bring. Our year will start off once again with the Storybook Wedding Bridal Expo coming up on January 20, 2013 at the Prince George Civic Center. And it’s already shaping up to be a busy year. Make sure to book early to save your date. We have already turned away a few brides since their wedding date was already booked.

Night Photo Session
We headed out north of Prince George for a night photo session with Naomi & Matt. It was very foggy for most of the evening, but then the fog cleared off and we got the photo we were waiting for… a wedding couple with the Northern Lights in the Background!
We didn’t have long before the fog caught up with us and once again blocked out the sky. We are definitely looking forward to shooting more night photography sessions in the future. All we need are some interested couples and individuals to take part!
If you are interested you can fill out Our Contact Form, and we will get back to you to discuss the type of scene you would like to be a part of… whether it’s a fun light painting session, or something more dramatic with the Stars, a Meteor Shower, or the Northern Lights in the background.

Engagement Session at Ness Lake
Katie & Tyler wanted to have a fun engagement session with their dog Dakota. So we planned an afternoon at Ness Lake, near Prince George BC. They had a great time playing fetch in the water, and then enjoyed some smokies on the campfire for dinner just in time to catch the beautiful sunset.

Cottonwood Park Engagement Session – Prince George BC
We met Jessica and Preston for their engagement session on a beautiful fall morning at Cottonwood Island Park in Prince George BC. Jessica was the winner of our draw at the Storybook Wedding Bridal Expo in January. They decided on a fall engagement session to take advantage of all the amazing fall colours.
We are looking forward to the 2013 Storybook Wedding Bridal Expo – to be held on January 20, 2013 at the Prince George Civic Center. Its such a great place to start building more great relationships with the brides and grooms, as well as the other wedding professionals in town.

Tim & Michel – Smithers BC Wedding
Tim & Michel had an amazing outdoor wedding ceremony on the banks of the Bulkley River in Smithers BC. We were very excited when Michel contacted us to photograph their wedding in Smithers in the fall, as all of our weddings to date have been in Prince George. But we love to travel, and knew it would only be a matter of time before we headed out on the road. The town of Smithers BC is such a beautiful location, and the drive along Highway 16 from PG to Smithers is such a gorgeous drive. It was the perfect location for our first out-of-Prince-George Wedding! And this barn made the perfect backdrop for their newlywed photos.
We met with Michel and her Bridesmaids at the Logpile Lodge, where they had just finished up a delicious breakfast. Once the hair and makeup was complete, it was down to the Hug farm for the ceremony.
After the ceremony it was time for some family photos along the river, and then a quick newlywed photo session with Tim & Michel, before they headed back to a friends house for a bit before the reception at the Paul Lychak Evelyn Community Hall for the reception.
Congratulations once again to Tim & Michel! And thank you for letting us take part in your amazing wedding day. Smithers is such a beautiful place, we will definitely be back again.

Bridal Session – Prince George BC
We met with the beautiful-bride-to-be Melanie for a Bridal Session at her home in Prince George British Columbia. She had described her dress at our previous photo sessions and meetings, but seeing it in person was something else. Such a beautiful wedding dress with amazing beading and lace. Dress from The Gallery Bridal Boutique.

Melanie & Blake’s Wedding – Prince George, BC
Melanie & Blake’s wedding day finally arrived on September 22nd in Prince George BC. We have built up a great relationship with them over the past year – first their session with their beautiful baby daughter Leighton, then their Engagement Session at Cottonwood Island Park, then a Bridal Session with Melanie, and of course with lots of discussions about their amazing wedding plans along the way. So it was very exciting to finally meet them at the church for the rehearsal, and of course then again for their wedding day.
Shauna met the girls at Melanie’s place, where Jenni from Shear Intensity was doing the girl’s hair. From there it was over to the Core Salon for makeup, and then back to the house for the finishing touches and putting on Melanie’s intricate lace wedding dress – from the Gallery Bridal Boutique - before hopping into the limo for a short cruise around town before the ceremony.
Dan met the guy’s out at Blake’s parents house where they were getting ready. It was a relaxing morning with lots of laughs, food, and drinks. The guys had their own limo as well, and headed down to St. Michaels Church for the ceremony.
After the ceremony it was into the limo’s once again and over to Fort George Park for a mixture of family, bridal party, and newlywed photos. The fall leaves made for a beautiful background!
From the park it was on to UNBC for some more bridal party and newlywed photos, before heading up to the Hart Community Center for the wedding reception.
The Hart Community Center is one of the top wedding reception locations in Prince George. What an amazing job they do on every aspect of the reception. Everything was awesome – the decorations, the lighting, and the food! And we were happy to see Steve from the PG Entertainment Group would be the DJ for the night.
Great people, great food, and a whole lot of fun. Congratulations once again to Blake and Melanie on your perfect wedding day!

Janelle & Dan’s Wedding
Janelle & Dan were married on a beautiful and hot September day at the family farm in the Blackburn area of Prince George, BC. Their farm wedding was a contrast to their engagement session we did back in June.
Janelle had a lot of great DIY wedding ideas for her wedding – our favorite was the hay bale benches. The guys arrived on an old Mercury Pickup, while Janelle and her father arrived in a 1926 Model T Ford. What a great way to start things off! After the ceremony we did some family and bridal party photos at the farm, before heading over for some newlywed photos on the way to their wedding reception at the Blackburn Hall. What a great day!
Congratulations once again to Janelle & Dan!

Chrissy & Nathan’s Wedding
We had been looking forward to Chrissy & Nathan’s 100 Mile Wedding in Prince George BC for some time now, and were excited it was finally here. We had a great time during their Engagement Shoot at Ginter’s Meadow, and knew their wedding would be amazing.
Chrissy is an energetic Do-It-Yourself Bride with so many awesome ideas. She decided to have a 100-Mile-Wedding, with local and organic food supplied mainly from within a 100-mile-radius of Prince George. Their beautiful backyard reception had some great DIY ideas – such as the tissue paper pom-poms hanging in the apple trees and the canoe filled with ice to hold the drinks.
We were all a bit worried about the weather – it was pouring rain on the morning of the ceremony. But it was forecast to clear off by the afternoon, and as luck would have it the forecast was right, which worked out perfectly for their 3pm ceremony time. It stopped raining around 1pm, with just enough time to dry off the chairs and finish decorating the yard, before Chrissy headed upstairs to finish getting ready.
After the ceremony we headed out to the Miworth Hall with Chrissy and Nathan to get some photos of the reception venue, before heading back along Miworth Road for some photos, and then down to Wilkins Regional Park along the Nechako River. What a beautiful location it was, made even better from having such a happy couple to work with.
The reception was an amazing assortment of DIY ideas as well! Chrissy made burlap table runners, tissue paper flowers in mason jar vases resting on tree cookies, more coffee filter pom-poms, mason jars covered with lace for drinking glasses – each with individual name tags, and much more. And the food was fantastic! What a great idea to have a 100-mile wedding. The local produce tasted amazing, and the chefs did a spectacular job – the pulled pork was definitely our favorite. Here are some of our favorite photos from their wedding day…
Congratulations once again to Chrissy and Nathan! Thank you for having us take part in your amazing wedding day!
